T he Tai Khamties:----- The Tai Khamties , a tribe of rich and glorious heritage , belonging to the great Tai race , migrated to Assam in the middle part of 18 th century. They have their own script and a well  developed language including innumerable literary works. The Khamties are very far in advance in knowledge ,arts & culture. At present the Khamties are residing in the villages Bor- Khamti Gosain bari, Shri Bhuyan, Bopathar , Dewtola and Tipling in the District of Lakhimpur , Assam. Though the are poor in population ; yet they try to maintain cultured life. The Khamties are Buddhist . they have their own tamples , priest , dress language , customs and religion. The Khamties are economically not so sound ; but they are living harmoniously with the Assamese main stream. ******
